NOTE THAT SOIL TESTING IS CRUCIAL. Toxic residues like DDT may prevent the use of land for organic production.
Do you already have an established property or business, and are considering conversion to organics?
The first step is to contact theSecretary to discuss what you need to know about organics and certification. Familiarising yourself in advance with the information on this website will make this discussion more productive.
A multi-residue soil test is a good place to start. This will tell you whether your property is suitable for organic production.
Having this soil test available as early as possible gives a lot of information to help you through the organic certification process.
Do you already have an established property or business, are following organics practices, and want to become certified?
The first step is to contact the Secretary to discuss your particular interests, plans, and stage of development. Understanding the certification processes set out on this website will make this discussion more productive.
Discussing your plans at your property or operation can clarify all of the matters to be dealt with in your first application for certification.
We want to make this process as easy, encouraging and constructive as possible.
We will arrange to visit you at your property or operation to discuss the certification process, work through questions and issues with you, and provide an assessment of what may be required for your property or operation to become certified.
You will be provided with a summary of the matters discussed.
We expect that this meeting could last up to two hours. We will charge $0.50 a kilometre for this service.
Would you like to grow organically to feed your family but are unsure how? Are you living in the Wairarapa, Tararua district or Manawatu?
You can become an affiliated grower with Growing Organics Inc. You will not be audited because this is a programme for those wanting to grow their own produce organically at home.
For a small fee of $ 1.25 per week you will receive an annual visit by our certification manager, who will also provide ongoing support and advice through email for all your organic growing questions through the year.
